Tisshaws are delighted to announce their partnership with Time 4 Children, as their Charity of the Year 2022.
Time 4 Children provide free one-to-one emotional listening support for children who find it hard to express their thoughts, feelings, experiences and worries in a safe environment. The charity uses a team of trained volunteer practitioners who are skilled in ‘listening’ to children using reflective listening and non-directive play techniques.
Working with local schools in Mid Sussex, children are given a one-to-one weekly session where there is the time and space to explore their fears, upsets and anxieties. This helps children feel better about who they are and what they can achieve, resulting in both short- and long-term benefits, including improvements in social skills, ability to learn, self-confidence, self-worth, and emotional wellbeing.
Time 4 Children was established by Vicky Chalmers in 2005, after identifying a lack of support for local children who needed someone to listen to them. She and the team are passionate in their belief that supporting children at an early stage when they are struggling with emotional upset in their lives, can prevent more serious mental health problems in later years.
Children can be referred by local schools, other family support workers, parents, and main carers, but parents or main carers must consent to their child being supported.
Speaking of the charity, Director Gilva Tisshaw explains, “Throughout 2022, we hope to partner with Time 4 Children to support their fundraising initiatives to help them continue the valuable work they do in our community. The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on young lives has intensified many worries and fears and we want to help the charity in their efforts to support as many local children as possible.”
